I couldn’t continue living with my parents when I was seventeen and the coop was the one place that I could go. I loved the idea of being part of a community after living in less than desirable places. My mum helped me move there in the hope that I would calm down, grow up and meet a nice man. The next month we interviewed for the 4th member of our home and two years later we moved into a flat on the coop together. We were able to use the reasonable rent to save up a deposit for a house and get married twelve years after meeting. I guess mum’s always right in the end 😃
Co-operative Housing in Milton Keynes
Living with Us
Giffard Park Housing Co-operative offers a variety of properties, including shared houses, one bedroom flats and bedsits/studio apartments.
Each member of our co-operative is provided their very own, generously sized bedroom, including a brand new, state-of-the-art divan bed. This is their creative bubble to dominate and decorate as they please. Outside of their door they can expect luxurious living spaces to meet and mingle with their fellow members, along with fully-functioning kitchens to make their meals in together. Each house also comes with its own separate shared bathroom and toilet facilities, to take away some of the typical co-habitation woes.
In addition to this, all members are provided access to our on-site “Amenity Building” or “AB” for short. This all-purpose space is perfect for socialising, setting up groups and soaking up the atmosphere of co-operative life. Here you will find our dedicated members of staff, who are here to aid you in any of your housing concerns.
First-time single applicants will initially move into one our 12, fully furnished, four bedroom shared houses. They will undergo a short “probation period” before being offered a place on the waiting list for one of our flats or bedsits (depending on their individual needs). Couples/Partners applying to join us are advised to check availability of flats and bedsits before applying, as our waiting list can be quite extensive.
